We have been working hard making a Healthy Eating Dictionary. First of all we looked at lots of different fruits and vegetables and talked about how they are healthy for us to eat because they have vitamins in them. We all wrote a dictionary definition for a fruit or vegetable and drew them with either pastels or watercolour pencils.
We also looked at foods that will give us energy, calcium for our bones and protein to help make us strong and healthy.
Miss Fisher has been looking at the packed lunches that children are bringing in to school to see how healthy they are.

Grace the Super Hero!
@ 2007-02-04 – 20:07:27

We have been reading the true story of Grace Darling. On a stormy night in 1838 she set out from Longstone lighthouse with her father in a small wooden rowing boat to rescue nine people stranded on rocks. It was a very dangerous journey, but Grace showed great bravery as she helped her father save the surviving passengers of a stricken steam boat which had crashed onto the rocks in the fierce storm. We all thought that Grace was a real super hero because she didn't know any of the people who were on the rocks and she was willing to risk her own life to save them. She must have been cold, terrified and exhausted as she battled through the huge waves, but she never gave up. Look at our super writing- we have been trying to use adjectives and adverbs to make our writing interesting.

Learning our numberbonds!
@ 2007-01-28 – 18:48:01
This week we have been working on our numberbonds to 10 and 20. We used our numicon pieces to help us make posters showing all the pairs of numbers that make 10 and then 20. By the time we finished making our posters most of us had learnt all our number bonds to 10 and could use these facts to help us with our number bonds for 20.

Going for Goals.
@ 2007-01-18 – 21:44:37
We have set ourselves targets for reading, writing and numeracy, and are all trying to be the best we can be, so that we can achieve our targets. Each group in the class has a new display, with a car for everyone in the group. We made roads for our cars to travel along to the targets with messages to help us keep going. We also thought of resolutions to write on balloons, so everyone in the class has made a cut out figure of themselves which holds their balloon in our new display under our special rainbow.

Seasons Greetings.
@ 2006-12-20 – 05:05:05
We have been very busy in class, working hard to create all the props for our class performance, "One Snowman at Hovingham!" Everyone has made snowflakes, a snowman mask and a snowmans hat. We have also made some snowman pop up cards for Christmas and Eid, calendars and snowman shakers. We have also made a DVD with 2Yellow of all the songs in our performance. Each group sang a song in front of the chromakey backdrop and then created the picture together that would become their background in the video. We are having a preview of the DVD on the last afternoon of term!
Best wishes to everyone for a happy holiday, happy Christmas and Eid, and best wishes for 2007.

We're going on a monster hunt!
@ 2006-11-25 – 19:35:51
We have read the story "We're going on a bear hunt", and have decided to write our own stories...."We're going on a monster hunt!" We have been learning about adjectives, so we have thought of lots of good adjectives to describe our monsters and the weather. We have worked as authors writing the story, and illustrators using oil pastels to draw scenes for our stories. Miss Fisher is busy learning about digital video editing! We are going to have a go at making DVDs of our stories next week, and also make models of our monsters.
