  • Our wonderful environment.

During Environment week we explored the wonders of our school grounds and used our riddle writing skills to write some super riddles about what we see, hear, smell and feel in our school grounds. We tried to use lots of adjectives and compound sentences to make our writing really interesting.06-June-2007-(2)06-June-2007-(3)06-June-2007-(4)06-June-2007-(5)06-June-2007-(6)06-June-2007-(7)06-June-2007-(8)06-June-2007-(9)06-June-2007-(10)06-June-2007-(11)06-June-200706-June-2007-(7)

  • Shrinking Stories.

We read the story "In the Garden" together and talked about what it must have felt like for Kipper and his friends to shrink. We also watched "Honey, I shrunk the kids!" and "Alice in Wonderland."
We all painted a picture of a setting for our stories and made word webs to get all our ideas about the setting written down. Then we used a Story Mountain planner to help us jot down our ideas for our own "Shrinking Story." We wanted to make our stories really interesting so we tried to use adjectives and compound sentences.
When it was our ICT lesson we used our computer skills to write up our stories. We have really enjoyed writing our stories, and we hope you enjoy reading these examples.Adam\'s-settingAdams\'s-storyMuneeba\'s-settingMuneebas-storyHasheema\'s-storyNadia\'s-settingNadia\'s-storyShazaib\'s-storyShazaib\'s-setting

  • Success Stories.

Every Tuesday afternoon, Mrs Poole takes her Nurture group, appropriately named the "Tuesday group!" The aim of the group is to build the self confidence of the children in the group and so they work together on a variety of craft activities, listen to stories and chat together. The children make such lovely things, they will all feel very proud of their achievements when they take them home! I'm sure that the children in the Tuesday group wish it was Tuesday everyday! Look at the lovely pots the children planted with cress and decorated, and their cute Easter bunnies!

All the children have been given targets to work towards in reading, writing and numeracy, and we had made a display with each child in their own car, travelling along their own learning journey towards their targets. Each week the cars moved a little nearer their targets, and now at the end of term most of the cars have reached the finish line and the children have achieved their targets! A few children have been away on long holidays in Pakistan, and so theirclever-kidsFantastic-friendssuperstarsterrific-teamcars couldn't travel along their learning journey... but I'm sure that on their return the children will be keen to catch up.

On the last day of term we had an exciting Circle Time, when everyone received a blown up balloon to represent the targets that they had achieved this term! Well done!

  • Train Stories.

Having made our wonderful models of trains we decided to write some magic train stories. We read the story "Magic Train Ride" by Sally Crabtree and learnt the song. Inspired, we planned our stories on story mountain planners and drafted the beginning in our writting books. Finally in the ICT suite we all wrote our stories on the computers using 2Simple 2Publish. Some of us illustrated our stories on the computer, and some of us choose to draw our own illustrations after we had printed the text. We tried to remember what we had been learning in Literacy, so we tried to use speech marks, exclamation marks and adjectives! Some of the class worked so hard that they were chosen to take their work to the Headteacher, Mrs Spence annd she gave them all a special sticker. Here are three of our wonderful magic train stories.Hasheemas-titleHasheema-1Hasheema-2Nazams-storyShazaib-part-1Shazaib-part-2

  • We love making things!

We love making things in Year 2, and we have been extra busy these last few weeks. Following our visit to the Railway Museum we all made a train carriage, with wheels that turned, and then worked as a group to make the train engines. clever-kids-trainfantastic-trainterrific-traintrain
For Mothers Day we all made little vases of flowers to take home.mothers-day
Earlier in the term we learnt how to do running stitch on plastic canvas, and we all made book marks, for our Easter cards, we used our sewing skills to stitch onto a felt egg, to make a pretty easter card design.easter-card

  • Now we have healthy lunches!

    Healthy-lunches-for-blog
You can see how much healthier our packed lunches are now!
Also our school lunches are much healthier too, with lots of vegetables to choose from, a daily salad bar, fresh fruit salads for puddings, and in addition to a hot main meal we can also choose a healthy sandwich. sandwichessalad-barfruit-salad

  • Making healthy sandwiches.

Now that we have learnt about the Balance of Good Health model, and know which foods we need to eat to be healthy we have been thinking about what some of us bring to school in our packed lunches!
    Packed lunches before Health week.

Oh dear! We all thought about what we could put into a packed lunch box to make it healthy. On Wednesday afternoon, some of our mums, the caretaker and the bursar all joined us in class to have a go at making healthy sandwiches. They were delicious! Miss Fisher is going to see who brings healthy packed lunches to school now!
